The Horror: Grinded Alive

By: Daniela Silva
Poultry industry kills millions of hatchings alive
The horror begins as young males are tossed, tumbled and thrown into a chute where they are ground and crushed alive, in one of the worlds largest egg-laying industries. In one sole industry, the one of the largest known in the world 150,000 hatchings a day face this unimaginably brutal and painful fate; equalling to over 22 million deaths a year.
The lives of the females begin with being whirled and tossed by their heads, followed by the snap of their sensitive beaks. The chicks are then shipped in packed tight boxes and shipped internationally.
This practice is not only limited one sole industry but it is practised worldwide as a standard in all egg industry businesses. Educated consumers can make a difference by protest and promotion to better provide the little yet significant lives humane treatment; becoming vegan should not be the only way one can make a difference.

The following video shows the whole process ** WARNING** this is graphic and may be very discomforting to many.

Child-Predator too Close to Home.

By: Daniela Silva

Welcome to the Internet: A predator’s playground indeed. A valuable lesson was taught to a young boy by the name of Eric when he had met a attractive girl by the name of Ashley Matthews, and with time he came to know and chat more personally with the young girl or who he thought was a young girl. Eric began to feel uncomfortable, and being close to his mom, she noticed and began to question.

Her instinct drove her to search through young Eric's computer, and immediately noticed Ashley's profile, noting the picture and information given felt as though it was just a put-on and that there was much more behind that pretty face of hers, and with Eric's approval Mr. Norton a member of Durham regional police began the investigation.

A month later Ashley Matthews was uncovered as a 38 year old man by the name of Stephen Alexander Martin previously teaching Eric at Sir William Stephenson school in whitby also employed as the schools photographer. A shocking break in the search for the true person behind the made up Ashley. Young teens are much too trusting on the Internet and need gentle guidance when talking about the predators that are lurking behind the many pages of chat rooms.

Be aware of your child and their feelings, ensure proper security and safety measures are being taken on the internet. Your kid may one day thank you for it!

Peace in pieces.

Syrian peace talks no longer justify the amount of deaths that occur in Syria, at least 100 people a day lose their lives in the attempt to make the most out of the rubble they used to call home.
With the last peace talk on Friday, the number of deaths a day have not declined, and many are still suffering in the hands of the government. On February 1st, oil drums full of explosives and tightly packed shrapnel were used against the Syrian people by the government; a cruel war crime indeed. These Shrapnel packed oil drums have now taken the lives of 700 people, and since 2011, the war itself has costed the lives of more than 130,000 people and is responsible for the homelessness of over 6 million people.

Extinct... and stolen?

By: Daniela Silva

It has been a dreadfully long week for the smallest and critically  fragile species of water lily, which has been stolen from the royal botanic gardens in London. This lily is widely believed to be extinct in the wild  due to a laundry that had opened up and acquired the water source the lily flourished in, since then only 50 in the world are carefully preserved  within facilities.

With the obliteration of this species Mr. Fischer had kept careful precautions, and keeping the flowers in fair condition had given him time to figure out how the species procreated and flourished. It was a dreadfully timely process that was sure to eradicate the rare and elusive water lily; suddenly  Carlos Magdalena had resurrected the dying species.

Carlos Magdalena had helped the procreation of the 50 in captivity today; and back in africa it seems as though the tiny water lily had braced through the toughest of times and made a comeback. Hopefully the naturally germinated seeds will flourish in the mud a few hundred  feet away from its native home.

Police unfortunately have no insight as to where the previously captive flower would have been taken and further report that there is likely no chance of recovering the lily; dubbed as a priceless and crucial part of the conservation of the species.

They've stopped counting the dead

By: Daniela Silva

It hard to really catch on the current events, especially on Syria; thinking about it, I myself sat in confusion as to what really was going on. Syria is located in western Asia, bordering Lebanon and the Mediterranean sea. It is a giant melting pot of diverse ethnic and religious communities, including Arab Alawites, Arab Sunnis, Arab Christians, Armenians, Druze, Kurds and Turks. Arab Sunnis make up the majority of the Syrian population of 22.4 million people.

With this in mind, Syria had peaceful protests in which the people asked for democratic and economic reconstitution within the government and in return the government had overthrown this peaceful protest with military force on the people openly shooting children and women. The civil war then came into motion in March 2011, when fourteen to fifteen teenagers were arrested, six, allegedly tortured and two brutally killed for vandalizing school property with an anti government statement. Since then the people have taken a stand and have began a civil war-which goes on to this day.

Over 130,433 people have lost their lives; the UN has decided to refrain from counting anymore. Fathers, mothers and children have been brutally killed on a day to day basis, and the war has shown no signs of breaking. Shootings of people, snipers that prey on children and chemical warfare have been used against the people. The chemical inside the deployed rockets, is called the sarin nerve agent; twenty times more deadly than cyanide. The Syrian army is believed to have 1,000 tonnes of chemicals for use in warfare, including the sarin chemical; It is highly believed by the United states of america that the Syrian government is responsible for this attack.

This right here is unethical, inhuman and gruesome; a lot of people still have no idea as to why.
Syrians need a voice, the people need aid and care. Stand up and voice what is going on; we need to step in. Below, a child is treated after a bombing.
